Proverbs 18

Proverbs 18

My heart seems to connect with Proverbs 18.  I was spending some time there today and it just seems that this chapter speaks to me more often than I want to admit.  It seems as if I am in need of it’s wisdom way more than I should be.  I will not make this blog a time of great confession but will simply allow a few of the verses that spoke to my heart, speak to yours also.  As an old pastor of mine used to say, “If the shoe fits, may God give you the grace to kick yourself with it.”

Verse 2 – “A fool takes not pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.”

Verse 6 – “A fools lips walk into a fight, and his mouth invites a beating.”  Isn’t that so true?  We walk into quarrels and fights lips first!

Verse 10 – “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.”

Verse 11 – “A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.” Italics mine

Verses 13,17 – “If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.  The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.”

Verse 14 – “A man’s spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear?”

Verse 21 – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat it’s fruit.”

Verse 22 – “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.”

Verse 24 – “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”

Not simply self help thoughts but wisdom from the one who desires for us to have full joy.  We will never go wrong if we mold our lives around the wisdom of God.
